Field Experience Information
The HOM Field Experience is a formal period of education and experience during which students will be expected to test the organizational theory, business concepts, and health care knowledge gained during their formal course work. The objectives of the field experience are achieved by providing each student with personal coaching and guidance by a preceptor, a qualified, practicing health services administrator, and by providing an environment in which the student begins to develop the ability and confidence necessary to assume significant administrative responsibility.
Process
The HOM Program contacts organizations around the Lubbock community and state to create field experience opportunities for the students. The HOM Program hosts a meeting where all possible preceptors and students meet. After this meeting, students are expected to interview with various preceptors and make a match.
The field experience process is summarized below:
- Register for the class
- Fill out the application form the HOM Office
- Attend Preceptor Meeting
- Interview with various preceptors
- Make a Match
If a student wishes to find his or her own field experience, it has to be approved by the HOM Program Director.
